**Your new company**
You will be joining a diverse and well-established federal government department on an initial 12-month assignment with flexibility to work from the Mt Pleasant office as well as opportunities to work from home
This is a great chance to partner with key stakeholders such as the Community and Peer Advisors, to ensure best practice clinical care is being provided to the veteran community and their families.
**Your new role**
This role is for a community and peer advisor and is requiring someone with lived experience in the Australian defence force. This can mean an ex-service member or the impediment family of an ex or active service member. The intention of this role is to share your lived experience with staff, organisations and clients in order to promote hope, de-stigmatise mental health and help bridge trust towards clinical care.
Some of the key responsibilities of this role are as follows:
- Provide personalised mental health peer support to current and former defence force members and their families.
- Walk alongside veterans and their families to share experience to increase their feelings of connection to others.
- Share lived experience in a way to promotes mental health recovery and wellness.
- Work closely with internal professional support staff to co-facilitate the support offered by Open Arms
**What you'll need to succeed**
The primary requirement of this role is to come from a defence force background, either as an ex defence force member or a family member of an ex or serving defence force member. Lived experience with mental health and recovery allowing you to connect you with various clients is also preferred. Experience supporting mental health is not a requirement of the role, as long as you are willing to share your experiences.
