QLS has a 12-month contract opportunity for a Program Compliance Officer to join the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board team. The QLS provides secretariat supports to the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board (the Board) whose role, amongst other things, is to make recommendations to the Supreme Court in relation to the eligibility and suitability of applicants seeking admission. In providing support to the Board, QLS staff provide administration and legal assistance, including speaking in court on behalf of the Board.
This role is responsible for the content review of undergraduate, postgraduate and dual degree law programs as against the Law Admissions Consultative Committee’s (LACC) accreditation standards. In addition, the role will review the content of practical legal training (PLT) programs for compliance against the LACC PLT Competency Standards and brief the Board’s external assessors in relation to law programs and PLT courses completed overseas.
In this role you will:
* Assess the content of law courses and PLT programs to make sure they meet relevant accreditation standards
* Recommend to the Board whether law and PLT programs should be approved
* Advise overseas applicants on qualifications and assessment standards, and brief the Board’s external assessors
* Give advice to the Board and LACC on any changes to accreditation standards and competency standards
* Manage and maintain databases for overseas qualifications
Ideally you will have the following:
* Qualifications and/or experience in law and teaching within the legal profession (excluding current or previous affiliation with Queensland-based Law Faculties and PLT providers).
* Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, the Legal Profession Act 2007 as it applies to academic and PLT admission requirements.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including senior university staff and overseas law graduates.
* Experience in reviewing course content for compliance.
