Job Description
As a key member of our team, the Safety Specialist will play a pivotal role in shaping our company's safety culture. Reporting to the Senior Specialist Health, Hygiene & Safety, this position will be based in Whyalla and will contribute to the success of our operations through expert advice, support, and mentoring on operational and strategic safety issues.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and drive positive change. A strong advocate for safety, this individual will be responsible for building and fostering relationships across business units and supporting services. They will provide solid advice and solutions at both strategic and tactical levels, guiding the workforce on safety-related issues, including investigations and risk mitigation.
This role offers flexible working arrangements, including FIFO options, allowing individuals to maintain a healthy work-life balance. The Safety Specialist will drive continuous improvement and site safe systems of work framework, facilitating incident investigations, hazard identification, and risk assessments.
Key responsibilities include:
* Building and maintaining strong relationships across business units and support services
* Providing expert guidance and support on safety-related issues, including investigations and risk mitigation
* Driving continuous improvement and site safe systems of work framework
* Facilitating incident investigations, hazard identification, and risk assessments
* Supporting line leaders in the effective implementation and communication of health and safety policies, standards, programs, and procedures
* Conducting audits of business processes associated with inherently high-risk activities
* Supporting the implementation of new safety initiatives
* Cultivating a culture of safety awareness and promoting best practices throughout the organization
Required Skills and Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess relevant Health & Safety qualifications, coupled with industry experience. Strong understanding of safety best practice standards and relevant legislation/regulations is essential. Additionally, they will require current and valid driving licenses, experience in conducting risk assessments and incident investigations, effective influencing and coaching skills, innovative approaches to safety, and the ability to work autonomously.
