This role is perfect for someone who enjoys supporting others and making a positive impact in their lives. As a Disability Support Worker, you'll provide companionship and emotional support, promoting independence and community participation when possible. A typical day may involve supporting clients with daily living tasks, domestic activities, and personal care, as well as assisting with self-medication and cooking meals.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you'll need experience working with individuals with developmental trauma, a therapeutic approach, and a commitment to supporting people with disabilities. You'll require good communication skills, the ability to accept responsibility, and a patient, flexible, and understanding nature. While a Certificate III in Individual Support or equivalent is desirable, it's not essential. A valid driver's licence with access to a comprehensively insured vehicle is also preferred.
