The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly experienced Application Control Security Engineer to support and mature a large enterprise application allow-listing environment within a Federal Government cyber security team.
This is a senior hands-on engineering role focused on VMware Carbon Black Application Control across approximately 7000 Windows endpoints. You will own the day-to-day administration, tuning and optimisation of the platform while supporting broader cyber security operations, incident response and endpoint protection initiatives.
The role requires a strong technical specialist who can balance security enforcement with operational practicality in a complex government environment. You will also play an important role in mentoring APS staff, improving internal capability and supporting long-term platform maturity.
Key Responsibilities
* Configure, administer and maintain VMware Carbon Black Application Control across a large Windows environment
* Design and implement application control policies aligned to ASD Essential Eight guidance
* Tune policies, alerts and detections to reduce false positives and improve user experience
* Manage platform upgrades, versioning, agent health and ongoing platform stability
* Support cyber incident investigation, threat hunting and response activities using endpoint telemetry and events
* Develop technical documentation, SOPs and operational runbooks
* Provide mentoring, walkthroughs and capability uplift support to APS cyber security staff
* Work collaboratively with cyber operations, infrastructure and security stakeholders to strengthen endpoint security posture
Skills and ExperienceTechnical capabilities
* Strong hands-on experience with VMware Carbon Black Application Control / CB Protection
* Experience administering endpoint security platforms in medium-to-large enterprise Windows environments
* Strong understanding of Windows desktop and server operating environments
* Experience implementing and supporting application allow-listing and endpoint hardening controls
* Knowledge of ASD Essential Eight and Australian Government cyber security frameworks
* Experience supporting security operations, incident response or threat hunting activities
* Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills

Security Clearance
You must be an Australian Citizen and hold a current Baseline security clearance at minimum.
Working Arrangements
This role can be based from several major Australian capital cities, with hybrid working arrangements available depending on operational requirements.
