Primary objective
The Homelands Coordinator plays a central role in the oversight and coordination of the homelands sites operations, ensuring the
consistent quality and effective delivery of culturally responsive, inclusive, and accessible educational services
Context statement
Arlparra School consists of 5 sites in the Utopia homelands, 250 kilometres northeast of Alice Springs, providing education to
students from preschool to senior school and a 0 to 5 Families as First Teachers (FaFT) program for children and their families. It
has a current enrolment of approximately 240 students, most of whom are Indigenous. The school aims to achieve optimum
education outcomes for learners and input to the development and achievement of key strategic and operational goals.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide strategic leadership and coordination in professional learning initiatives, including comprehensive support to
homelands learning centre teachers in the areas of pedagogy, curriculum design, assessment methodologies, and work
program development to enhance student learning outcomes and attendance rates.
1. Ensure the consistency of practice across the homeland sites, including the alignment of timetables, curriculum delivery,
programming, and planning processes.
1. Foster close collaboration within and across teams in the Department to identify and effectively address the diverse learning
needs of homeland teachers, actively advocating for their continuous professional development.
1. Develop, implement, and regularly review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) such as communication protocols and safety
measures to guarantee safe, supportive, and efficient processes are consistently followed across the homeland sites.
1. Ensure that homeland teachers maintain proficiency in English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL-D) instructional
practices, supporting their capacity to meet the linguistic and cultural needs of diverse learners.
1. Oversee the comprehensive and effective orientation of new staff members to homeland sites, facilitating their smooth
integration and ensuring they are well-prepared to contribute to the educational environment.
1. Facilitate collaborative learning experiences such as professional learning days and communities of practice days which
promote shared expertise and ongoing skills development of teachers.

Essential
1. Proven experience in living and teaching effectively within remote and culturally diverse community environments.
1. Sound knowledge and application of Department of Education policies and procedures.
2. Sound knowledge of contemporary educational research relating to explicit instruction and system wide priorities.
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and sustain positive relationships within and
beyond the school community, fostering a culture of high expectations and inclusion.
5. Strong organisational and time management skills and the ability to develop self and others.
6. Demonstrated high-level written and oral communication skills with the ability to apply negotiation and conflict resolution
strategies effectively.
