Feedlot Manager – The Mount Feedlot (Forbes, NSW)

About the role
We're looking for a hands‑on, mechanically minded person to lead day‑to‑day operations at The Mount Feedlot. If you've fed cattle and managed a team, we'll support you to step up — even if your broader feedlot management experience is still building. You'll get structured onboarding, clear SOPs and a supportive team.
About The Mount Feedlot
* Licensed capacity: 5,000 head
* Currently feeding: typically 3,000–4,000 head 150 day Grain Fed Angus HGP Free
* Farm: 1370 Hectares which includes farming, backgrounding and fodder production
* Infrastructure: new mill, shade in pens, silos restored, new office
* Team: established livestock team, and a part‑time mechanic on site
* Growth: capital investment in new facilities is planned over coming years
What you'll do
* Lead and roster the feedlot crew; set a safe, positive culture
* Oversee feeding rounds, bunk reading and ration accuracy
* Keep equipment running: daily pre‑starts, basic troubleshooting, coordinate repairs
* Manage livestock team who will monitor animal welfare, water and pen conditions
* Coordinate receivals/inductions and dispatch to program timelines
* Maintain simple records (NLIS/QA) and report easy‑to‑track KPIs (intake, ADG, FCE)
* Cropping interface: oversee contractors for sowing, spraying, spreading and harvest; plan and cut silage each year
* Contribute to planning and project‑manage elements of upcoming site upgrades
Must‑have strengths
* Mechanical aptitude (mixers, trucks, loaders/skid steers)
* Practical cattle feeding experience (bunk management, ration delivery, intake observation)
* Team leadership (supervising, coaching and rostering)
Nice to have (not essential)
* Prior feedlot or intensive‑livestock experience
* Familiarity with feedlot/farm software (currently using FY3000 / StockAid / FeedBunk)
* Cropping experience and general farm experience
