Position Summary
The Junior Accountant is responsible for safeguarding the financial integrity and stability of the hotel, minimizing any exposure to potential risks. The individual assists the Director of Finance in managing the administration of all financial aspects of the hotel and ensures that all local, corporate policies and procedures relating to the function are strictly adhered to.
The Role
* Assists the Director of Finance/Assistant Director of Finance in managing the daily duties and operations of the Finance Department. Ensuring that all relevant team members comply with the set departmental procedures and policies.
* Responsible for monitoring and verifying the hotel's overall accounting and financial reports, ensuring that all transactions are accurate and in compliance with local government regulations; and accounting principles are strictly followed.
* Provides the knowledge expertise in all areas of accounting to support, coach and mentor team members and department heads on any finance related matters.
* Establishes and maintains proper filings of reports to ensure that all sensitive information, balance sheet, accounting reports and journal entries are accurately recorded and safeguarded.
* Establishes and maintains strict compliance to all departmental policies, workplace safety and security procedures set by the hotel.
* Reviews all ledgers, postings, payment transactions and guest balance reports on a daily basis. Compiles and prepares monthly financial statements for senior management review.
* Maintains accuracy in all financial data in records and its distribution to relevant parties.
* Monitors and controls cash flow statements of the property, anticipates any potential challenges. Identifies and flags any financial activities that can serve as a potential threat to senior management.
* Assists the Director of Finance in the preparation of annual budgets, monthly forecasts and operating performance report reviews.
Talent Profile
* A Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Finance or Accounting, CPA Certification and Membership.
* Minimum 1 year experience in a similar role at a luxury hotel/resort.
* Knowledge of Purchase Plus and Sun System is preferred.
* High level of interpersonal skills, ability to multitask, ability to prioritise tasks and meet required deadlines.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Efficiency in Excel is preferred.
* Existing working rights in Australia.
