Our Mission and Objectives
We are responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.
These goals include:
* Maintain the Antarctic Treaty System
* Protect the Antarctic environment
* Understand Antarctica's role in the global climate system
* Conduct scientific work of practical, economic, and national significance
In addition to these goals, we also administer the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands.
The Division plays a critical role in supporting Australia's interests in Antarctica and the surrounding Southern Ocean. Our scientists conduct research in a range of fields, including biology, physics, geology and medicine. We also work to protect the Antarctic environment and promote international cooperation on Antarctic issues.
Key Responsibilities
As a Media and Communications Officer, you will be responsible for:
* Developing and implementing effective communication strategies to promote the Division's objectives
* Managing media relations and responding to media inquiries
* Crafting compelling content for various audiences, including media releases, social media posts and website articles
* Providing guidance and support to staff on communication matters
You will work closely with our team to achieve our goals and contribute to the success of the Division.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* A strong understanding of communication principles and practices
* Excellent writing and editing skills
* Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
* Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
Additionally, you will have experience working in a government agency or similar environment.
It would be beneficial if you have knowledge of the Antarctic environment and the Division's activities.
