**Agency Purpose**

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

**The Team**

The People Branch enables AEC's staff members through the provision of expert advice, support and resources. The branch consists of six (6) sections, namely Employee Relations and Wellbeing, National Training and Education Unit, Payroll, Systems and Reporting, Recruitment, Temporary Election Workforce Support and Engagement Strategies. We aim to work in partnership with AEC business areas to bring a strategic focus and innovative approaches, built on solid operational foundations.

**The Opportunities**

The Payroll Officers role is required to undertake the day-to-day processing of payroll as well as answer entitlement and conditions queries from both internal and external stakeholders. As part of this role, you will calculate entitlements for AEC staff, including commencements and cessations. The Payroll Officer interprets and provides advice to staff on salaries and related entitlements, leave and general conditions of service in line with the AEC Enterprise Agreement and related legislation, policies and procedures.

To excel in these roles you'll have:

- Demonstrated technical knowledge or experience in one or more fields of the roles on offer, preferably in the public sector.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, providing client focussed services in a processing environment.
- Knowledge and experience in successfully completing allocated tasks and delivering quality results within set timeframes.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively whilst liaising with stakeholders and assisting to resolve issues across a geographically dispersed network.
- Ability to think critically and conduct research and report on findings.

**Eligibility**
- AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
- Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
