About the Organisation

St Francis Flexible School is a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition. Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Flexible Schools Ltd currently educates over 2,400 young people in 22 Flexible Schools (13 based in Queensland and 9 other schools across Australia) and two Special Education Services schools in NSW, with approximately 700 staff nationally. Flexi schools serve young people who experience complex educational, social or psychological situations which demand unique responses. They enable young people to engage in education in a supported learning environment through a methodology based on trauma‐informed practice, to co‐create a Common Ground using Operation by Principles, in which the principles of Honesty, Respect, Participation, Safe & Legal are embedded. Our special schools serve young people with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.

About the Role

We are looking for a Psychologist to join our team, working at our Hobart campus, commencing as soon as possible.

* You will be employed on an ongoing basis, and you will be employed under the Tasmanian Catholic Education Single Enterprise Agreement 2024. Salary will depend on qualifications and experience plus $5,000 Hard to Staff Allowance.

The Psychologist is responsible for young person and adolescent psychologist services and acts under the direction of Principal via the Head of Campus. This position facilitates access, participation and maximises educational outcomes for young people, and utilises psychological expertise in education and learning to support and build the capacity of the school toward the same goals.

This role will work with the Wellbeing Team and other teams to develop programs at the school as directed.

Undertake assessment of psychological disorders involving clinical measures, clinical interview skills, observations and information from other sources.

Provide expert knowledge and understanding of mental health disorders and their relationship to child and adolescent development.

Provide evidence‐based psychological counselling, therapy and programmes for individuals and groups for a range of mental health, emotional and family issues.

liaise with caregivers, staff and external professionals/agencies as required to ensure care of students and appropriate case‐management.

Respond to referrals from caregivers and members of staff and determine appropriate intervention.

Assist staff in the development and implementation of programmes addressing student wellbeing needs.

Respond to crisis situations and provide appropriate support to the school.

Maintain adequate and confidential case notes and student files in accordance with APS Guidelines.

About You

Essential

* A Working with Vulnerable People Registration (or able to obtain)

Highly Desirable

* Understanding of and commitment to the values of a Catholic educational system of schools in the Edmund Rice tradition.
* Proven senior leadership experience, both strategic and operational, characterised by strong organisational, administrative, communication, and leadership skills, particularly in relation to areas outlined in this position.
* Able to demonstrate the high‐level communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills necessary to be successful in a complex and layered organisational structure.
* Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the provision of child and adolescent psychological assessment, diagnosis and development services, in particular autism.
* Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the provision of evidence‐based psychological counselling and therapy and the development and facilitation of programmes to support the wellbeing of young people.
* Proven ability to plan and deliver evidence‐based interventions in collaboration with students, parents, staff and other relevant professionals.
* Proven ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations, undertake risk assessments, develop safety plans and provide support to the College community.
* Proven ability to relate to students, parents, schools and other relevant professionals and sound oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
* Personal skills of self‐direction, initiative and flexibility and the ability to work as a member of a multi‐disciplinary team.
* A good knowledge and understanding of the diversity of the student population and school community and response to systemic needs including staff development, supportive school community strategies and initiatives.
* Ability to liaise with external services providers where necessary.
* Registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Psychology Board of Australia.
* Recognised tertiary qualifications in Psychology.
* Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Employment category).
* Current National Police Check (issued within the last 6 months).
