THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Racecourse Manager, this permanent full-time position will be responsible for supervising the ongoing site maintenance and management of Royal Randwick Racecourse and collaborate with other ATC sites primarily focusing on Gardens and grounds, to ensure they are presented in the best possible condition and contribute to making Rosehill a premier racing and training facility.
DAY TO DAY, THE ROLE WILL:
* Supervise with the maintenance and presentation of gardens, landscapes and turf across the grounds
* Conduct regular assessments of the gardens, grounds, trees and perimeter surrounds of the racecourse and schedule works accordingly
* Conduct soil sampling and water testing and implement fertilising programmes
* Perform planting, pruning, weeding and mulching tasks and general upkeep of the gardens
* Test and apply chemicals, identify, and mitigate against potential pest and disease risks
* Contribute to maintaining a safe and visually appealing environment for visitors and stakeholders
* Support your management team in the day to day operational management of the Racecourse, including staff management and maintenance
* Provide advice to and manage the work of contractors to ensure Club requirements are fulfilled.
THE RIGHT FIT
To be successful in the role, the right fit will have the following experience and capability:
* A trade certificate in Horticulture or a related discipline is essential;
* Supervising and motivating a team of staff
* Minimum of 3 years' experience, outside of an apprenticeship;
* OH&S provisions relating to manual handling and the handling of pesticides and other chemicals used in the day-to-day management of the Gardens and grounds;
* Broad understanding of chemical application, pest and disease management;
* Ability to identify and recommend plants;
* Experience in indoor plant maintenance;
* Desirable but not essential; irrigation installation and maintenance;
* Desirable but not essential; experience in large scale propagation;
* Understanding of the racing industry is desirable but not essential
* Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
* Computer literacy and skills in the use of Microsoft Office;
* Comfortable working in close proximity to horses with the potential risk of exposure to horse incidents, accidents and fatalities;
