About The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for a commercially minded Project & Asset Accountant to join a large, complex Australian organisation undergoing significant investment and transformation. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this role will be responsible for managing the end-to-end asset lifecycle, partnering closely with project and business stakeholders to ensure accurate project reporting, timely capitalisation of assets, and strong financial governance.
This position offers exposure to senior finance leaders and business stakeholders, providing the opportunity to influence decision‐making through insightful analysis, robust reporting, and continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Create and maintain projects within financial systems, ensuring accurate setup and governance.
* Partner with project managers and business stakeholders to monitor project milestones and maintain cost-to-complete forecasts.
* Manage the capitalisation process for project expenditure, ensuring timely transfer of completed assets into the fixed asset register.
* Monitor and reduce Construction Work in Progress (CWIP) balances through effective project close‐out practices.
* Assess expenditure to accurately distinguish between capital and operating costs in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
* Perform monthly variance analysis, identifying key drivers of actual versus budget performance and impacts on project forecasts.
* Complete month‐end asset accounting activities, including depreciation calculations, accruals and reconciliations.
* Prepare high‐quality reporting and analysis for senior leadership, governance forums and external audit requirements.
* Contribute to the enhancement of financial controls, policies and processes to support continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
* CA or CPA qualification.
* Strong understanding of accounting standards relating to capitalisation and fixed assets.
* Experience partnering with operational and project stakeholders.
* Excellent analytical, problem‐solving and communication skills.
* The ability to present complex financial information to both finance and non‐finance audiences.
* Experience within retail, FMCG, infrastructure, property, development or other project‐intensive environments will be highly regarded.
