*Our Opportunity*
The purpose of this role is to lead and support the successful development of Fortescue's renewable energy developments in Australia, including solar, wind, and storage initiatives. This role is accountable for driving developments from concept through to construction, ensuring commercial viability, securing necessary approvals, and fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders.
By integrating technical, commercial, environmental, and social considerations, the position contributes to Fortescue's mission of becoming a global leader in green energy, delivering projects that are safe, sustainable, and commercially robust.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Drive the development of renewable energy projects (solar, wind, storage) from concept through to construction.
* Prospecting, including identify project sites, key stakeholders, required permits and approvals and resource potential.
* Working closely with the internal business development, finance, financial modelling, legal, engineering, E&S and People teams, as well as with external advisors as required
* Support in the preparation of investment proposals focused on commercial merits of development opportunities.
* Support relevant teams in securing land, approvals, and social license.
* Support negotiation of key contracts including land leases, PPAs, OEM and EPC agreements.
* Provision of input into and stewarding of grid connection applications.
* Leading or supporting the structuring and negotiation of equity investment agreements, such as joint development agreements, shareholder agreements or share purchase agreements
* Identification and management of suitably qualified 3rd party consultants / contractors / suppliers in a collaborative manner.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, landowners, and community stakeholders.
* Oversee project budgets, timelines, and ensure compliance with sustainability and safety standards.
Qualifications And Experience
* Degree in Engineering, Business, Commerce, Environmental Science, or related field.
* MBA (desirable)
* 10+ years' experience in renewable energy project development.
* Extensive experience in negotiating commercial terms underpinned by strong financial skills – e.g., joint ventures, commercial partnerships, long-term product sales contracts
* Experience developing and maintaining high performing teams
* Strong knowledge of permitting, regulatory, and commercial frameworks.
* Financial acumen and experience with project financing.
* Good understanding of the Australian energy sector.
* Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
* Strong relationship management skills and a highly collaborative manner
* Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence key decision makers and motivate project team members
* Strong commercial acumen and understanding of all aspects of a complex infrastructure project
* Flexible mindset, challenge traditional thinking, and be prepared to work outside of their comfort zone in a nascent industry
