Overview:
Canberra based Federal government client requires a Infrastructure Engineer/System Administrator to assist with the deployment, configuration, and ongoing support of solutions within a discrete operational network used for the collection and ingest of operational data into their protected core networks and systems.
Duties include:
* Plan, deploy, configure, and support infrastructure solutions in discrete, high-assurance environments, ensuring reliable and secure data flows.
* Design and implement infrastructure across the full stack (physical, virtual, network, storage) to support business applications.
* Provide technical direction to vendors and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with security, architectural, and operational constraints.
* Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Ansible and Git/GitLab, including CI/CD for controlled, auditable change.
* Provide technical leadership and mentoring, promoting automation-first and secure operating practices.
* Operate effectively within a small, multidisciplinary team, delivering knowledge transfer through clear documentation and reusable artefacts, while maintaining required governance and security standards.
You will have experience in some of the following:
Demonstrated experience designing, delivering, and supporting secure, Linux-first (Ubuntu/RHEL) ICT infrastructure, with supporting capability across Windows systems and services.
Proven ability to deliver complex infrastructure and cloud-hosted solutions end-to-end, including:
* Security & architecture: network segmentation, access controls, encryption, patching, firewall configuration and vulnerability management
* Operational readiness: monitoring, logging, backup and recovery, lifecycle management and runbooks
* Testing & resilience: functional, performance, integration and failover considerations
* Platform constraints: capacity planning, compatibility and system lifecycle management
Hands-on experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code, including Ansible, Git/GitLab, CI/CD pipelines and environment management.
Strong capability across virtualisation and networking, including VMware vSphere/ESXi and Cisco switching and firewall technologies.
Experience with modern platform tooling, including containerisation (Docker/Podman, Kubernetes), Linux standard operating environments, monitoring and alerting in segmented environments, security tooling and SIEM integration, and data ingest pipelines (e.g. Apache NiFi).
Well-developed scripting skills (Bash and PowerShell) and experience operating within formal security, change, and compliance frameworks typical of Federal Government environments.
