The Djurali Group is hosted by THE HEART RESEARCH INSTITUTE (HRI), located in Newtown, Sydney, which is a centre of excellence in cardiovascular medical research.

The Djurali Head of Operations has overall responsibility for leading the Djurali Group including governance, strategy, HR, finance and program delivery. This key role provides organisational-wide, strategic leadership that seeks and fosters growth opportunities derived from within HRI including support of a Reconciliation Action Plan and developing opportunities with leading scientists within the HRI to further Indigenous research, Indigenous methodologies and education opportunities. The role is supported and guided by the Djurali cultural leaders. Specific role accountabilities are :
* Strategic leadership that fosters collaboration, strategic alliances and partnerships with leading researchers in cardiovascular, Indigenous health and health equity.
* Development of an enhanced and interconnected education and research culture promoting health equity for Indigenous people.
* Development of major grants (and potentially Capital Campaigns) strategies that further funds HRI / Djurali’s research and capital aspirations.
* Building HRI capacity as a leader in co-design and consumer and community involvement in research.
You will have :
* Extensive understanding of the historical and contemporary challenges including positioning and experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia
* Relevant tertiary qualifications or extensive experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, Aboriginal Affairs or related field. Qualifications in project management are highly desirable.
* Demonstrated experience with community engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities that is culturally safe and free of racism
* Demonstrated extensive leadership of a multi-disciplinary team with particular emphasis on working on a broad portfolio of projects within a demanding environment
* Demonstrated competence and experience in strategic and operational planning, budget creation and management
* Advanced project management capability and extensive experience
* Ability to work well and flexibly i.e. autonomously, in small and large teams and with a wide range of stakeholders
* High level interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence and strong ability to develop and sustain trusting and long-term relationships
* Strong written and verbal communication skills of the highest level, and good attention to detail
* Collaborative approach in working with the broader HRI team to grow and embed Djurali Group within HRI that maintains Indigenous Knowledges and Indigenous Cultures.
* Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organisational priorities and dynamic environments including able to manage and resolve conflicts or disputes.
* Highly competent in MS Office and digital applications
* Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check.
