Mechatronics Support Engineer
Reservoir, VIC (4–5 days onsite)
The Mission
MEQ is redefining the red meat industry through individual carcass-level data. Their probe technology is changing how producers think about grading, genetics, efficiency and sustainability.
They've recently closed a significant funding round (double-digit millions), secured US accreditation, and are expanding internationally. The growth is real. The product is real. The impact is measurable.
Now they need someone to own the technical backbone that keeps it all running smoothly.
This Is Not a Traditional Support Role
You won't be sitting behind a ticketing system.
You'll be the bridge between R&D, production, and field operations. Day one, you are the support function. Within 12–18 months, you're likely leading it.
This role is about bringing structure to ambiguity. Building documentation where none exists. Turning reactive fixes into scalable systems. Solving hardware issues before they reach customers.
If you've worked on a factory floor and enjoy diagnosing mechanical and electronic systems in the real world, this will feel energising.
What You'll Be Doing
* Acting as the technical link between R&D, production, and field technicians
* Troubleshooting mechanical and electronic issues at root cause level
* Writing and improving SOPs, work instructions and training materials
* Identifying recurring issues and implementing long-term fixes
* Supporting interstate field deployments when required
* Feeding production insights back into hardware design
* Laying the foundations for a scalable support function
What They're Looking For
Must have:
* 3+ years in a production, manufacturing or mechatronics environment
* Hands-on troubleshooting experience across mechanical and/or electronic systems
* Experience creating technical documentation and structured processes
* Strong communication skills with both engineers and technicians
* Comfortable working onsite in Reservoir
* Able to operate in a fast-moving, startup-style environment
Nice to have:
* Exposure to electronics or firmware
* CAD experience (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape or similar)
* Field service or applications engineering background
* Startup or scale-up experience
* Experience improving QA or production systems
The Team & Environment
15 engineers across mechanical, software, ML, Android, frontend, backend and data.
Tight-knit. Hands-on. Highly collaborative.
They love solving first-of-its-kind problems and take real pride in building something meaningful for an industry that hasn't traditionally had this level of technology applied to it.
Why This Role Is Interesting
* You're not inheriting a mature function. You're building one.
* You'll have direct exposure to leadership and R&D.
* There's a clear pathway into leading the function as the company scales.
* The company is well funded, revenue-backed and expanding into the US.
