About the Role
Crisp Bros. & Haywards is a leading Tasmanian owned and operated steel fabrication and construction company. Our business is owned and operated by a passionate team committed to delivering quality engineering, fabrication, construction and marine projects throughout Australia.
Due to multiple long term contracts, we are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our shipyard team in Margate, south of Hobart, to lead the construction and delivery of steel/aluminium commercial vessels, workboats and related marine/engineering projects. This role ideally suits someone with strong shipyard experience who understands the operational demands of aquaculture workboats, barges, support vessels and other work boats. You’ll be responsible for delivering high quality robust, fit-for-purpose vessels on time and on budget.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage end-to-end construction of steel and aluminium commercial vessels and workboats
* Plan and control project design, schedules, budgets, and quality
* Coordinate subcontractors, and suppliers
* Monitor steel fabrication, welding, piping, mechanical, electrical and outfitting stages to ensure compliance with the contract
* Ensure compliance with statutory regulations
* Liaise with clients, surveyors, engineers/naval architects, and shipyard management
* Monitor quality, safety, and workmanship throughout the build
* Identify and resolve technical and production issues proactively
* Assist with preparing bid/tenders for new work
Required Experience & Qualifications
* Tertiary qualifications in Naval Architecture/Engineering and/or Project Management experience in commercial vessel or workboat construction
* Strong knowledge of vessel construction and shipyard operations
* Experience with commercial vessels such as barges, workboats, crew boats, or service vessels
* Ability to read and interpret marine drawings and technical specifications
* Knowledge of NSCV & Class legislation and authority requirements
* Strong leadership and communication skills
* Tender management or experience (desirable)
* Practical, solution-focused mindset in a production environment
* Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite
