This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards a nationally recognised Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety over a 24-month traineeship.
Our host company Poly Pipe was founded in 2006, where it became an industry specialist in the manufacturing of Polyethylene pipe systems for use in Data, water, gas, waste and energy. Located in Lake Macquarie, Poly Pipe has a modern extrusion and purpose-built manufacturing facility fitted with the latest equipment and has a high attention to detail, renowned for their quality assurance with all its products.

Position Duties:
* Assist in developing, implementing, and reviewing workplace health, safety, and quality (WHSQ) policies and procedures specific to a manufacturing environment.
* Conduct workplace inspections to identify hazards, risks, and areas of non-compliance.
* Support incident investigations, ensuring thorough documentation and follow-up actions.
* Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and quality control processes within the manufacturing plant.
* Assist with the implementation and monitoring of WHSQ management systems to meet relevant standards, such as ISO45001.
* Help deliver training sessions and toolbox talks on WHSQ topics relevant to manufacturing operations.
* Maintain and update WHSQ documentation, records, and compliance databases.
* Ensure the proper implementation of plant-specific safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO).
* Collaborate with production teams to foster a safety-first culture and encourage continuous improvement.
* Support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions to improve workplace safety and quality.
* Ensure all employees are aware of safety policies to maintain a safe working environment.
* Ensure timely and accurate reporting and investigation of accidents and incidents.
* Perform other duties as directed by the Safety Coordinator or General Manager.

* Strong interest in workplace health, safety, environment, and quality within a manufacturing setting.
* Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.
* Basic problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
* Understanding of basic manufacturing processes and workplace safety (desirable).
