With a long life, the underground mine targets high quality coal, with the majority being metallurgical coal.

**ABOUT THE ROLE**
We are looking for an Environment, Community & Approvals Manager to join our team for a six-month maternity relief position. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this role will play a pivotal role in ensuring sustainable operations and regulatory compliance at Maxwell Underground. The incumbent will balance operational goals with environmental stewardship, foster community relationships, and secure necessary approvals to maintain the mine's legal and social license to operate.
We are ideally looking for an individual with initiative, who is has demonstrated problem-solving skills, proven leadership experience and the ability to coach and mentor team members.
**WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING**
- Oversee compliance with environmental regulations, including water management, air quality, noise, heritage, waste disposal, environmental offsets, land management and rehabilitation activities.
- Conduct environmental impact assessments and audits, ensuring alignment with applicable regulations.
- Prepare environmental management plans, reports and maintain an environmental management system.
- Coordinate property management for rural and residential properties.
- Drive continuous improvement of a safe work culture
- Build and maintain positive relationships with regulators, local communities and stakeholders.
- Address community concerns and implement programs to support community development and social responsibility.
- Act as the primary point of contact for community inquiries and feedback regarding mining operations.
- Lead the Environment, Community & Approvals Team to develop and maintain a positive working culture.
- Budget, review and control costs for all Environment, Community & Approval activities
- Support adherence to site HS&E requirements
- Build and maintain effective working relationships, working collaborative across Operational Teams to provide assistance where required.
- Report, as directed, on all matters relating to environment, community and approval matters.
**SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**
To be successful in this role, the applicant will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline
- Extensive experience in environmental management within the mining industry, preferably in underground coal mining.
- Proven track record in community engagement and securing regulatory approvals.
- Experience leading and mentoring a Team to achieve organisational objectives.
- Contractor management skills.
- Strong knowledge of mining regulations and environmental laws.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis, report writing, and project management.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellence time management and prioritisation skills.
