PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: As Senior Communications Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the public image and community engagement strategy for a significant transport infrastructure project. You will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive communication plans, overseeing stakeholder engagement initiatives, and maintaining a positive relationship between the project and the public. Your expertise will guide the strategic direction of communications and ensure effective dissemination of information to various audiences. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and executive a strategic communications plan to support the infrastructure project’s objective and milestones. Lead community engagement efforts, including public consultation, to foster positive relationships and address community concerns. Craft clear and compelling messaging for various platforms, such as media releases, social media, newsletters and project updates. Coordinate with project managers, government bodies, and contractors to ensure accurate and timely communication of project developments. Prepare briefing materials, speeches, and presentations for senior management and other stakeholders. Monitor and analyse media coverage, public opinion, and industry trends to inform communication strategies. Manage crisis communications and issues resolution, providing swift and appropriate responses to mitigate potential negative impacts on the project and department’s reputation. Provide expert advice and support to senior leadership on communication and community engagement matters. Evaluate the effectiveness of communication activities and report on community engagement outcomes. Ensure all communication activities comply with legal, ethical and organisational standards. Mentor communication professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a communications and community engagement role, preferably within infrastructure, construction, or government sectors. International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) Certification, or a willingness to obtain certification independently. A current Class ‘C’ Drivers Licence A degree in communications, public relations, journalism or marketing would be highly desirable. Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with experience managing stakeholders at all levels. Uses high level understanding of media, government and regional operations to manage and develop media resources to enhance the department's reputation. Understanding of Infrastructure Sustainability Council or Australia framework and how it applies to infrastructure projects.
