Historic Royal Palaces is a team of people who love and look after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world and their magnificent historical gardens. We are recruiting for a Cultural Learning & Participation Officer Apprentice, giving you a fantastic opportunity to grow and develop your skills while working at these historical sites.
This role will support the planning and delivery of an ambitious arts project at the Tower of London through creative engagement activities. It will work alongside professional artists, producers, local community groups and people living in East London, and will include puppetry, dance, and music exploring the theme of 'animals'. The Cultural Learning and Participation Officer will support activities at the Tower and offsite rehearsals and events, gaining an understanding of the creative process and themes. They will work with the project team to support a wide‐range arts engagement programme for residents of Tower Hamlets and East London, including activities for diverse individuals who experience barriers to accessing and engaging with the Tower of London and its stories. These barriers may be financial, physical, intellectual or cultural.
Our team is committed to working collaboratively with local people, for the long term. This role will help us continue to engage new partners while maintaining existing relationships. We would particularly welcome applicants who are resident in or have a strong relationship with Tower Hamlets and East London. Over the course of this apprenticeship, the responsibilities will grow, taking over more of the planning and delivery of onsite and offsite activities and events.
Responsibilities
* Assist with the coordination and delivery of engagement programmes for young people and adults.
* Attend engagement workshops to assist Lead Facilitators.
* Attend rehearsals to learn about the Artistic Director's creative process and assist as required.
* Support participants to access and engage with workshop and rehearsal content.
* Set up spaces for meetings, rehearsals, and activities.
* Meet and greet participants for visits and events.
* Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external collaborators about project activities.
* Assist the team in maintaining an up‐to‐date database of community partners that is clear and compliant with data protection standards.
* Support the team to ensure that events and activities adhere to Historic Royal Palaces policy and procedures and meet the expected health, safety, security, and safeguarding standards.
* Work occasional weekends and evenings to assist colleagues in the delivery of events at the Tower of London and at host venues in London; you will be able to take Time Off in Lieu (TOIL).
* Undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested by your manager.
Requirements
* Must be 18 years old or over by 2nd September 2025.
* Live in the UK.
* Must not have completed a degree or equivalent level qualification in the UK or elsewhere and must not already be in full‐time education.
* Five GCSEs at grade C (or 4) or above, including English, science/engineering, and mathematics (or equivalent).
* A passion for design, a creative mindset, and potential are highly valued.
