A dynamic government organisation committed to improving safety, productivity, and efficiency is seeking a skilled Payroll Officer to manage payroll operations in an outsourced model.
Your new role
As Payroll Advisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the department's payroll function across three separate pay calendars per fortnight.
* Ensuring safety is a core value and complying with WH&S policies.
* Validating new employee profiles during pre-boarding and establishing payroll profiles.
* Offboarding employees each cycle as appropriate.
* Managing regular reporting cycles including leave balances, exceptions, superannuation, allowances, and increment schedules.
* Handling payroll queries via the shared services inbox.
* Facilitating training or coaching sessions on timesheet and payroll processes.
* Auditing banking processes against the general ledger for authorised payments.
* Reviewing payruns for timesheet compliance and pay item accuracy.
* Escalating payroll concerns to relevant stakeholders.
* Ensuring compliance with PAYG, Payroll Tax, and Superannuation legislation.
* Maintaining up-to-date payroll information with departments external provider.
* Managing the external provider's delivery against contracted SLAs.
* Performing payroll reconciliations and resolving variances.
* Maintaining records in line with legislative requirements.
* Sourcing data for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting.
* Closing out non-compliant timesheets with managers and the external provider.
* Supporting internal and external audit activities.
What you'll need to succeed
* Ability to work both autonomously and within a team environment.
* Proven experience in payroll operations, preferably within a government or outsourced model.
* Experience with enterprise agreements.
* Strong understanding of payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
* Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
* Ability to manage multiple pay cycles and reporting requirements.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Experience with payroll systems and reconciliation processes.
