Administration officer (specialist outpatients department)

Gladstone
Queensland Health
Administration Employee
Posted: 3 April
Offer description

Looking for a role where no two days are the same? Step into the heart of healthcare as an Administration Officer with the Specialist Outpatients Department at Gladstone Hospital. You'll be the friendly face (and voice!) helping patients navigate their care—booking appointments, managing waitlists, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.
If you're organised, love a good to-do list, and can juggle priorities like a pro, this is your chance to make a real impact. Bring your people skills, attention to detail, and positive attitude—we'll bring the team support, variety, and flexibility. You'll be part of something that truly matters.

About us:

Welcome to Gladstone Hospital — a busy, community-loved 70-bed hospital where a little bit of everything happens (and then some). From Emergency and surgery to maternity, paediatrics and beyond, this is a place where you'll see the full spectrum of healthcare in action.

With around 282 staff keeping things running across acute, community and primary care, it's a true team environment. Each year, the hospital welcomes around 500 babies into the world and supports roughly 1,600 surgeries—so it's safe to say things don't stay quiet for long.

You'll find a mix of services including mental health, AOD, oral health and allied health, plus outreach and community care. With a busy outpatient clinic, surgical ward, and HDU for closer observation, Gladstone Hospital is dynamic, diverse, and right at the heart of its community.

About the role:

If you love a fast-paced environment where organisation meets people skills, this one's for you. As an Administration Officer in Specialist Outpatients, you'll be the behind-the-scenes powerhouse keeping everything moving—think bookings, waitlists, referrals and schedules all running like clockwork.

You'll juggle appointments, reschedules and follow-ups, making sure patients are in the right place at the right time (and feel supported along the way). From prepping medical records to coordinating theatre and clinic lists with clinicians, you'll be right in the action—without ever needing scrubs.

No two days are the same. You'll prioritise like a pro, problem-solve on the fly, and bring a calm, friendly approach when liaising with patients, families and staff. Add in a bit of admin innovation, teamwork, and the chance to work both independently and collaboratively—and you've got a role that keeps you on your toes in the best way.

About you:
* You're organised, tech-savvy and love getting the details right. Systems, spreadsheets and databases don't scare you—they're your thing.
* You've got great people skills, communicate with ease and know how to handle situations with professionalism and care.
* You can juggle priorities, meet deadlines and adapt in a fast-paced team environment—whether working independently or alongside others.

What we offer:

* An hourly rate between $39.98 - $44.46 p.h.
