You will contribute to improving the cultural responsiveness of our care by consulting with staff and supporting culturally safe practices across the team.This position supports young people who often fall through the cracks of the mental health system, those who struggle to engage with services and who present with diverse mental health concerns and other psychosocial challenges along with their families and friends.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide flexible, culturally safe mental health support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people using a strengths-based, youth-friendly approachContribute to assessments that consider the social, emotional, and cultural needs of young people and their familiesCollaborate with internal team members and external services to support care planning and strengthen referral pathwaysWork from a person-centred, family-inclusive approach to improve mental health outcomesDevelop and deliver age-appropriate group programs to support wellbeing and resilienceLead and support culturally significant events (e.g. NAIDOC Week, Sorry Day, Youth Week) that promote mental health and strengthen community connectionEngage with young people, families, and community stakeholders through outreach and awareness activities that encourage early help-seeking and reduce stigmaProvide information and support to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families access relevant servicesShare cultural knowledge with the headspace team to promote cross-cultural learning and inclusive practiceExperience, Qualifications & Other RequirementsMust identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person as this is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role.Ideally hold a minimum Certificate IV Mental Health or Aboriginal Health Care Practice or other relevant post-secondary qualifications in Health, Disability, Education, Youth Work or Community Development setting.Demonstrated ability to engage meaningfully with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people and their family and friends with a passion and determination to make a difference to the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people and their families.Ability to work independently and seek guidance and support, when necessary, as part of a multidisciplinary team.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively liaise, build relationships and partnerships, consult and negotiate with a wide variety of stakeholders.Other RequirementsHold a current ‘C’ class open driver’s licenseHold a current Working with Children Check (Blue Card), if required, issued by the Queensland Government.Selection CriteriaAn applicant must provide specific information and/or examples of how you can meet each of these criteria in your application in order to be considered for this position.Demonstrated experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people with mental health, alcohol and other drug, and social issuesStrong understanding of the challenges facing young people with mental health concerns, including those from diverse backgroundsProven ability to engage with young people, families, and a broad range of stakeholders across community and service sectorsExperience in community engagement, health promotion, and the delivery of education or group programsExcellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt messaging to different age groups and cultural contextsA collaborative approach with the ability to build strong professional relationships and contribute effectively to team goalsConfident in using computers and Microsoft Office, with a willingness to learn clinical systemsKnowledge of local youth/ health sectors.Knowledge and understanding of trauma informed practice.How to ApplyThis position is open only to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants, as permitted under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (QLD).If you have the skills, experience and passion to fit our team, please take the next step and submit your resume and cover letter or simply contact our hiring manager Heidi Walsh - Heidi.walsh@youturn.org.au for further details.How do your skills match this job?How do your skills match this job?Sign in and update your profile to get insights.Your application will include the following questions:Do you have a current Working With Children (WWC) Check?
