ABOUT THE ROLE The CHIPS Program is a project funded by the Department of Social Services, dedicated to supporting children at risk of developing mental illness. As an Early Intervention service, CHIPS delivers child-centred individual support, group work, and parental support through a multidisciplinary team approach. The program provides intensive, long-term, early intervention support along with short-term, immediate assistance and offers community development and outreach support.
TheChildren's Mental Health Workerwill play a crucial role in providing timely and responsive support to community members seeking early intervention mental health support for children aged 0 to 12 years. Working closely with children, families, schools, and other services, the role focuses on creating a joined-up support system to improve the wellbeing and resilience of children at risk.
Day to day your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Provide children's counselling, therapeutic work, and group support. Conduct assessments to identify child and family needs. Offer practical assistance for children and families as required. Deliver information, guidance, and referrals to relevant services. Provide parenting information and support. Build and maintain strong service networks and partnerships. Facilitate targeted therapeutic groups. Contribute to community development initiatives. To be successful in this role, you will have:
A qualification in Social Work or a related field Experience working with children and families in a support or counselling capacity. Strong understanding of early intervention mental health strategies Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external services.
