Based in Melbourne Australia, the Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (VACC) is an automotive industry employer association that protects and promotes the interests of its members through advocacy initiatives and the provision of automotive industry products and services.

Founded in 1918, VACC today provides its members with access to a suite of support measures that assist them in running modern automotive businesses. These includes access to Australia's largest automotive technical library, automotive-specific advice and assistance in human resources, workplace relations, OHS&E regulation training and compliance. VACC also employs more than 500 automotive apprentices through its group apprenticeship scheme facilitating placement with host employers in the industry.

About the Role

We are seeking a Policy and Research Officer, who will play a pivotal role in identifying and analysing industry trends and legislative changes that impact the automotive sector. In this role will use information and data to shape policy positions, develop high-quality submissions, and provide advice to VACC members on emerging trends and market conditions.

Key Responsibilities

* Research and analyse automotive industry trends, government policy, and legislation.
* Undertake economic, regulatory, and workforce research to inform policy positions.
* Prepare submissions, reports, issue briefs, discussion papers, and other evidence-based materials.
* Design and manage surveys, compile data, and apply qualitative and quantitative research methods.
* Contribute to advocacy strategies and assist in formulating VACC's positions on key industry and regulatory issues.
* Liaise and build relationships with members, stakeholders, government bodies, and industry representatives.
* Support coordination of committees, industry reference groups, consultation sessions, and meetings with Ministers or other key stakeholders.
* Assist with internal briefings, reports, and presentations for senior leaders, contributing to continuous improvement of research and policy processes.

About You

You are passionate about delivering positive outcomes for the automotive industry through evidence-based policy development. You bring strong research and analytical skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to communicate complex with an engaging approach.

You will bring:

* Demonstrated experience in policy analysis and environmental scanning to inform policy and program development.
* A bachelor's degree in economics, politics, public policy, or a related discipline.
* Strong research skills with experience in qualitative and quantitative methods.
* Strong understanding of the political landscape and government processes.
* Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
* Demonstrated experience in influencing stakeholders through excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience in an industry association, government, or advocacy environment is highly desirable
