A major Northern Territory project is seeking a skilled and experienced Workshop Coordinator to lead all workshop, maintenance and mechanical support operations. This pivotal role provides hands-on leadership across heavy mobile plant, light vehicles, fabrication, fuel and stores, ensuring operational readiness, compliance and performance across a diverse fleet and team. Working closely with the Senior Manager, you'll coordinate workshop personnel, oversee maintenance schedules and budgets, and lead a safety-focused team that supports one of the region\'s most significant projects.

Key responsibilities

* Oversee and coordinate daily operations of the heavy equipment and light vehicle workshop.
* Lead and mentor a team including diesel mechanics, LV mechanics, fuel servicemen and boiler makers.
* Manage preventative and reactive maintenance schedules to minimise equipment downtime.
* Oversee procurement, parts stores, fuel management and logistics.
* Administer and maintain the MEX maintenance system and related cost reports.
* Develop and manage budgets, identifying cost-saving and productivity improvement opportunities.
* Ensure workshop and field maintenance activities meet WHS, Environmental, ISO 45001 and FSC standards.
* Conduct toolbox talks, risk assessments (SWMS/JSEA) and ensure PPE and site safety compliance.
* Drive continuous improvement in workshop efficiency, fleet performance and asset reliability.
* Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and contractors to coordinate service schedules and resource priorities.
* Support wildfire readiness and ensure all firefighting equipment is maintained to standard.
* Mentor and develop local employees, supporting workplace learning, skill development and career progression.
* Build positive cultural and community relationships that align with the project\'s sustainability goals.

Qualifications and experience

* Trade and/or tertiary qualifications in mechanical or engineering fields (diesel, heavy vehicle or mobile plant).
* Minimum 10+ years\' experience managing or supervising a heavy equipment or transport workshop.
* Strong working knowledge of Caterpillar, Hitachi, John Deere, and Tigercat or similar forestry/heavy plant equipment.
* Proven experience in budgeting, cost control, procurement and contractor management.
* Demonstrated ability to lead diverse technical teams and maintain operational performance in remote conditions.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word; MEX or similar CMMS experience highly desirable.
* Familiarity with Safety, Environmental and Quality systems to ISO standards (ISO 45001, 14001, FSC).
* Remote work experience within forestry, mining, construction or heavy industry sectors highly regarded.

Desirable certifications

* First Aid and CPR
* HR or MC driver\'s licence
* High Risk Work Licence, Working at Heights, or EWP ticket
* NT Bushfires Awareness / Emergency Response training
