We're seeking a sharp, motivated, and experienced Lifestyle Editor to help lead our daily lifestyle and entertainment content operation. Reporting to the Head of News and Lifestyle, this role plays a crucial part in setting the editorial tone each day—getting the lifestyle team off to a strong, creative start and driving fast, engaging, and impactful coverage. You'll work closely with reporters to shape story ideas, manage trending topics, and ensure the highest editorial standards are met, while also contributing original writing.
Skills And Experience Required
For this role, you'll need a strong blend of editorial leadership, creative instinct, and a deep understanding of what resonates with modern Australian lifestyle and entertainment audiences.
You should be confident shaping timely, engaging content across lifestyle verticals - while also having a sharp eye for emerging trends and the stories gaining momentum across social media, search, and the cultural conversation.
* Editorial Expertise
* Proven experience in digital lifestyle and entertainment journalism, with sharp instincts for storytelling that sparks engagement and drives conversation.
* Strong editorial judgment and a clear understanding of journalistic standards, tone, and audience expectations across lifestyle, celebrity, and pop culture content.
* Skilled at spotting emerging trends, viral moments, and cultural flashpoints and turning them into compelling, high-impact stories.
* Confident in SEO best practices, headline writing, and optimising content for a variety of platforms, from search to social to homepage.
* Leadership & Team Management
* Experience leading daily editorial output, including setting the agenda for lifestyle and entertainment coverage and helping the team respond quickly to breaking or trending stories.
* Line management experience with reporters and editors, including mentoring, providing feedback, and supporting ongoing development.
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced, reactive environment where editorial clarity, creative decision-making, and speed are key.
* Strong collaborator across departments such as audience, social, video, and visuals to maximise reach and impact.
* Editorial Execution
* Skilled at driving proactive story planning while staying alert to reactive content opportunities throughout the day.
* Confident in overseeing legal and editorial checks, ensuring published stories are accurate, well-angled, and aligned with brand tone.
* Familiar with CMS workflows and newsroom tools to support fast, efficient publishing.
* Understands how to interpret analytics and track search/social trends to inform coverage and amplify performance.
* Communication
* Clear and confident communicator who can manage up, down and across.
* Strong written and verbal skills, with the ability to give constructive feedback, inspire creative thinking, and make timely editorial decisions.
