We are seeking an experienced System Administrator to lead complex technical initiatives, provide expert-level support, and mentor junior staff while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to align IT operations with business objectives.
Responsibilities
- System Administration
- Manage, configure, and monitor Windows and Linux servers.
- Perform system updates, patches, and upgrades.
- Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of critical IT systems.
- Lead the planning and execution of infrastructure migrations and system integration initiatives.
- Advise stakeholders on optimal technology solutions.
- Support a hybrid cloud architecture with Azure and on‑premises networks.
- Design and implement scalable cloud solutions.
- Networking & Security
- Design and implement firewalls, switches, and VPN configurations (Cisco / Meraki).
- Assist our MSSP with cyber incident response.
- Support identity and access management across Entra ID and Active Directory.
- Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide Tier 2/3 IT support to end‑users.
- Resolve escalated issues related to applications, networks, and systems.
- Provision laptops and other devices (Intune, Patch my PC).
- Documentation & Process
- Contribute to IT policies, standards, and procedures.
Core Skills and Competencies
- Practical proficiency in technical systems and tools.
- Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server administration and Azure.
- Scripting skills (PowerShell or Python).
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs).
- Hands‑on experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions (Veeam) would be an advantage.
Qualifications
- Degree in IT, Computer Science or equivalent.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience as a system administrator or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience managing Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Azure services (Intune and cloud‑based networking).
- Proven experience with patch management and security hardening (on‑premises and cloud‑based platforms).
- Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing and managing server virtualisation platforms (Microsoft Hyper‑v).
- Extensive expertise in networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
- Strong experience in scripting (PowerShell, Python) and security.
- Exposure to security frameworks such as Essential Eight or NIST CSF desirable.
- Azure Administrator and/or Cisco certifications will be highly regarded.
- Possess a current Defence security clearance or be willing to obtain and maintain a Baseline or NV1 clearance.
The role may require to occasionally deal with “after hours” network issues that could arise from time to time.
