Staff Specialist - Obstetrician and Gynaecologist
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology offers a comprehensive consultative service supported by a level 4 maternity unit, a level 4 neonatal unit, and an 8‐bed intensive care unit. The maternity unit is located at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) and also provides antenatal care at NWRH, Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) and outreach clinics. Approximately 1,000 births occur annually and the team includes experienced midwives, a sought‐after MGP scheme, and outreach services at West Coast District Hospital, Smithton District Hospital and King Island District Hospital and Health Centre.
This role is ideal for highly skilled medical professionals who thrive on challenge and are passionate about improving patient and system‐level health care. As a Staff Specialist you will provide leadership and participate in the delivery of an undergraduate general medical education program, and will join the after‐hours on‐call roster at NWRH (typically one in five weekdays and weekends).
Details of Appointment
Permanent full‐time, day worker with on‐call duties; working 76 hours per fortnight (hours may be negotiated). Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full‐time and part‐time vacancies.

Salary
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 – Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3: $216,300 – $310,389 per annum, pro‐rata + 12% superannuation. Salary access to the Senior Specialist range of $300,216–$310,389 is contingent on meeting the criteria for Senior Specialist Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.
Salary range is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022. Allowances may include:
* Living expenses up to $9,010 and meals & entertainment up to $2,650 per year
* Fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro‐rata
* Allowance in lieu of private practice schemes (35%)
* North West Retention Allowance (20%)
* Generous relocation assistance and accommodation

Eligibility
* Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
* Current registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times; the status may be checked at any time during employment.
* Current driver's licence (desirable)
