The work area
The Procurement Policy and Strategy business unit is responsible for a whole of government approach to procurement policy including administration of the Procurement Act, procurement systems and intelligence as well as whole of government common use arrangements and assurance functions that efficiently meet the business needs of government agencies, manage risks and deliver value for money.

The Department of Treasury and Finance currently operates under two sets of organisational values, following its formation on 1 July 2025. The values of clarity, empathy, growth and collaboration continue to guide everything we do in Procurement Policy and Strategy. In time, as we settle in our new structure and culture, we will collaboratively develop a unified set of values that represent who we are as the Department of Treasury and Finance.

The role
The Policy Officer (Social Procurement) undertakes research and provides low to mid-level procurement policy advice and education to agencies, community and social sector organisations and Aboriginal suppliers on social procurement policy, practice and initiatives. The Policy Officer promotes social procurement and supplier diversity to Government agencies and has an understanding of current issues and emerging trends in the social procurement sector.

The position operates in Personal Leadership context. This means that you are required to demonstrate personal accountability for delivering excellence and support your team and agency in delivering strategic goals. You will be expected to build and nurture relationships and be willing to seek feedback and learn.

The ideal candidate
You will have the ability to undertake research and data analysis. Excellent writing skills are fundamental to succeeding in this role as well as the ability to effectively liaise, educate and influence others. Knowledge of procurement in the context of the WA Government will be beneficial.
