Primary objective
As a member of the multi-disciplinary Alice Springs Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) provides acute care and support services
to adults and children who have experienced sexual violence and further, works towards the prevention and eradication of sexual
violence through advocacy and community education.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Deliver therapeutic support services to Aboriginal children and adults in Central Australia and remote communities who have

experienced trauma due to sexual assault.
2. Liaise with Aboriginal communities and other relevant agencies and organisations to promote SARC, identify community’s

needs in relation to SARC services.
3. Increase community capacity in regards to local responses to sexual assault by engaging with and working with stakeholders

to identify skills, services and structures needed locally to minimise the risk of assault.
4. Liaise with other service providers to ensure provision of appropriate and coordinated service delivery to SARC clients.
5. Provide expert cultural advice to the SARC team in regards to all aspects of SARC service delivery.
6. Provide advice and assist in the planning and delivery of meetings, training and information.
7. Participate in SARC meetings, case conferences and supervision and maintain records in accordance with policy, procedures

and guidelines.
8. Participate in the coordination and facilitation of therapeutic and support groups as part of a recovery process as appropriate.
9. Build and maintain collaborative networks to collaborate in the delivery of education, training, services and supports.
10. Collect statistical data; maintain computer records and write reports as required.
11. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Indigenous societies and cultures and the issues affecting Indigenous people

in contemporary Australian society; particularly as they relate to Indigenous people of the Northern Territory.
2. Experience of living within the framework of Aboriginal culture, values and lifestyles and representing these aboriginal

perspectives.
3. Knowledge of and experience in the provision of therapeutic support to people who have experiences trauma as a result of

sexual assault.
4. Demonstrated competence in the use of software packages, computer and internet-based technologies with experience in the

data entry and administration tasks relevant to key responsibilities of the position.
5. Skills and experience in liaising, consulting and working cooperatively with government and non-government agencies.
6. An ability and willingness to participate in the on call Crisis Response Roster.
7. An ability to interact effectively, collaborate and coordinate client care with people of diverse cultures, and within a

multidisciplinary team.
8. Licence to drive a manual vehicle or the ability to obtain.
Desirable
1. Ability to speak local Aboriginal language.
2. Experience and knowledge of group work with Aboriginal clients and know how to undertake appropriate education/training

with groups and communities.
3. Qualifications in a relevant human services field and/or qualifications in program delivery and/or training.
