About the Department
A busy birthing suite with approximately 3,800 births per year
A wide range of obstetrics and gynaecology services
A collaborative and supportive work environment with an excellent midwifery team
The O&G medical team comprises Staff Specialists and VMOs, Trainees, SRMOs, and RMOs, providing strong multidisciplinary support.
This role is primarily based at Wollongong Hospital, with occasional work at other locations across the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District as required.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver expert obstetric and gynaecological care across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings
* Support the ongoing development of O&G services and foster a culture of learning and best practice
* Advance research within the department and contribute to clinical governance
* Collaborate with hospital and district leadership to align O&G services with population health needs
* Identify priorities and develop clinical plans responsive to changing demographics and technology
* Ensure appropriate staffing and skill mix within the department
* Provide expert advice on workforce planning aligned with health priorities
* Support professional development and foster partnerships with universities and teaching hospitals
* Participate in ISLHD’s Performance Management Program, including annual reviews
* Maintain clinical competency within privileges granted by MDAAC

Qualifications
* Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) and/or equivalent specialist recognition.
* A comprehensive knowledge of and commitment to health system safety, quality, risk management, improvement systems, research and professional development.
* Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to motivate, inspire and organise staff to achieve organisational, program and professional outcomes.
* Proven ability to establish performance targets of a service and an ability to ensure that the targets are met.
* Proven ability to contribute to the business plans and organisational strategy of a service and facility including an ability to evaluate the outcomes and adjust strategy where necessary.
* Proven effective negotiation and communication skills (written and verbal) with a wide range of stakeholders.
* Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
* Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
