At Randstad Defence, we're proud to be partnering with Electro Optic Systems (EOS)—a leading force in the design, development, and manufacturing of advanced systems— currently seeking a Laser Scientist/Engineer to join their team in Canberra.
The candidate must be an Australian citizen and be eligible for a security clearance.
About the role:
The position is for a Laser Scientist or Engineer within the EOS Space Systems Research & Development (R&D;) team. A successful candidate is expected to undertake laser design, assembly, alignment, testing and maintenance. Also, writing technical documentation and reporting is also part of the routine.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with the development of new laser subsystems, primarily high energy lasers for ground-to-space applications. Includes laser design, component specification, assembly, optical alignment, and optimisation.
Work alongside other engineering disciplines and communicate system requirements.
Contribute to the instrumentation of cutting-edge opto-electronics subsystems.
Combine novel technologies or concepts to support the innovation and development of EOS IP.
Support the Engineering teams and communicate activity and progress to the respective discipline manager and VPs.
Undertake and document investigative experiments to inform the company's research activities.

Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Physics/Engineering or a related field.
Minimum 5 years' experience with bulk solid-state and/or laser systems.
Experience with the alignment and operation of Class 4 lasers, pulsed and CW.
Excellent documentation and communication skills.
Experience with Matlab or a programming language (Python, C++) is desirable.
