About the Business
Oriental Jade Pty Ltd is a well-established and reputable Asian restaurant based in Traralgon, Victoria. We specialise in authentic Chinese cuisine and a variety of other Asian dishes, proudly serving the local community with high-quality, flavourful meals. Due to business growth, we are seeking a qualified and experienced Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team on a full-time basis.
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan, prepare, and cook authentic Asian dishes, primarily Chinese cuisine, in accordance with our restaurant standards Manage daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, timing, and coordination during service periods Design and update seasonal menu items with appropriate portion control and pricing Supervise, mentor, and train junior kitchen staff in food preparation, hygiene, and presentation techniques Monitor inventory levels, manage stock rotation, place supplier orders, and reduce food waste Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic kitchen environment in line with HACCP and Australian food safety standards Ensure food consistency, quality, and plating presentation during busy service periods Collaborate with management to support events, functions, or promotional menus Monitor and control food costs and assist in achieving kitchen KPIs Report equipment issues and ensure proper maintenance of all kitchen tools and machinery
Skills & Experience Required:
* Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or higher (Australian-recognised qualification) Minimum of 2 years full-time experience working as a chef in a commercial kitchen Demonstrated experience with Asian cuisine, particularly Chinese dishes Proven ability to manage kitchen operations in a fast-paced environment Excellent food preparation, knife skills, and knowledge of kitchen hygiene procedures Strong leadership, communication, and time management skills Ability to work collaboratively in a team and train junior staff Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and evening shifts as required
