As the project progresses through key planning and approvals stages, we are seeking an experienced Principal Environmental Advisor to play a pivotal role in securing environmental and regulatory approvals and supporting the successful development of the KGP.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager - Planning, Environment & Approvals, the Principal Environmental Advisor will lead the preparation of environmental assessment and planning documentation and manage consultant studies to support the approval and development of the Katanning Gold Project. This is a Perth-based role with regular travel to Katanning, where you will represent Ausgold in community and stakeholder engagements. The position offers a unique opportunity to influence a major gold development from planning through to construction and operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the preparation of industry-standard environmental plans, procedures, and documentation addressing project impacts, mitigation, management, and monitoring.
* Manage external consultants and contractors to deliver environmental surveys, studies, assessments, and reports on time and within budget.
* Review and finalise consultant submissions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
* Apply in-depth knowledge of EPA/DWER, DMPE, DBCA, DPLH, and DCCEEW processes to secure approvals for the planning, construction, operation, and closure of the KGP.
* Prepare clear and concise documentation and presentations to support stakeholder and regulatory engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
Stakeholder & Community Engagement
* Represent Ausgold in Katanning through attendance at the local "Shopfront" and maintain regular engagement with government agencies and community stakeholders.
* Foster positive and productive relationships with community members, consultants, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
* Maintain accurate records of stakeholder interactions using MS Excel or Simply Stakeholders platforms.
Safety & Compliance
* Promote and maintain a safety-first culture in line with Ausgold's Safety Management Systems.
* Ensure compliance with all company policies, standards, and environmental obligations.
* Identify and communicate risks that may impact project delivery, budgets, or timelines.
About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Natural Resources, or a related discipline.
* Demonstrated experience leading environmental approvals for mining or major resource projects.
* Strong working knowledge of Western Australian and Commonwealth environmental and heritage legislation.
* Proven experience managing consultants, project schedules, and budgets.
* Excellent stakeholder and government engagement skills.
* High-level written and verbal communication abilities.
* Current 'C' Class Driver's Licence.
* Ability to work autonomously while effectively managing competing priorities.
Desirable Attributes
* Additional relevant certificates or diplomas.
* Experience with stakeholder engagement platforms such as Simply Stakeholders.
* Strong organisational and IT skills, particularly within the Microsoft Office Suite.
* A professional, adaptable, and public-facing temperament.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold the company's reputation.
