About the Opportunity:

As the Centre Kitchen Assistant / Educator, you will be responsible for supporting the preparation of nutritious and healthy meals and snacks for children enrolled at the service, as well as maintaining a safe, clean and hygienic environment to facilitate the preparation of nutritious and healthy meals and snacks. On occasion, you will be called upon to work in the classrooms, providing support to Educators and children at break times or at other points throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities:

* Prepare, handle, and store food safely, following all food safety and hygiene regulations maintaining high standards.

* Assist with menu planning for babies and children taking into consideration the service’s context, and culture of the children, families and Educators who attend.

* Ensure dietary requirements, allergies, anaphylaxis, and food restrictions are met at all times.

* Coordinate delivery of meals and snacks in accordance with the daily routine/children’s needs across each room.

* Maintain ordering, stock control and kitchen record keeping.

* Ensure cleanliness and appropriate storage of kitchen tools, utensils and equipment.

* Support Educators with food‑based learning experiences and special events.

* Build respectful relationships with children and families, welcoming feedback and inputs into menu creation.

* Provide support within the classrooms if required to ensure the service remains compliant with Educator to child ratio requirements.

* Commit to ongoing learning regarding best practices for food and nutrition for children ensuring culturally inclusive and respectful practices.

About You

* You hold a Food Handling Certificate (training can be provided).

* You hold (or are actively working towards) an ACECQA‑approved Certificate III qualification in Early Childhood Education.

* You have prior experience working in a kitchen in an Early Learning setting.

* You possess a good knowledge of nutrition for children, food safety practices, and allergen management.

* You demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding children and upholding their safety and wellbeing at all times.

* You have an understanding of the National Quality Framework (NQF), including the National Quality Standards (NQS), the Early Years Learning Framework, and the My Time, Our Place Framework for learning.

* You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* You are committed to Anglicare’s mission and values of integrity, inclusiveness, dignity, and compassion.

* You hold a current First Aid certificate, or a willingness to obtain.

* You have a current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Card – ACT.

* You have a sound knowledge of relevant external legislation that relates to this position.
