Position: Chef
Salary: $75,000-$85,000 per annum plus 12% superannuation
Hours: 38 hours

Tatura Hot Bread is seeking a qualified and experienced Chef to join our team on a full-time basis. This role is critical to the daily operations of our café kitchen, which services a high volume customer base seven days a week. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing a range of cooked-to-order café meals, managing food preparation areas, and contributing to the development of current menu items.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Food Preparation and Cooking:
• Prepare and cook a wide range of breakfast and lunch items from the café menu, including hot meals, egg dishes, gourmet wraps, toasties, and salads.
• Maintain quality and consistency in presentation and portion sizes for all café meals.
• Ensure that all meals are prepared to order and served within expected timeframes.
Menu Development:
• Assist with the development and introduction of new seasonal dishes and daily specials based on customer preferences and local produce availability.
• Provide input into food trends and help maintain a modern and appealing café menu.
Hygiene and Food Safety:
• Follow and enforce proper hygiene, sanitation, and food handling practices in line with Victorian food safety standards.
• Ensure compliance with temperature monitoring, cleaning schedules, and food storage protocols.
Inventory and Stock Management:
• Monitor ingredient stock levels and alert management to low supplies.
• Ensure correct rotation of stock and minimal food wastage.
• Assist with placing food orders and receiving deliveries.
Team Collaboration and Supervision:
• Coordinate with kitchen assistants and café staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
• Provide guidance and on-the-job training to junior staff as required.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen workspace at all times.
Customer Experience and Service Efficiency:
• Ensure café meals meet customer expectations in terms of taste, quality, and presentation.
• Support the front-of-house team during peak hours to ensure timely service and satisfied customers.
Skills and Experience Required:
• Minimum 1 years of full-time experience as a Chef or Cook in a café, bistro, or commercial kitchen environment.
• Strong experience preparing a variety of breakfast and lunch items to order.
• Understanding of food safety legislation and HACCP procedures.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Creativity and input in developing new menu items and improving existing offerings.
• Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent) desirable.
Working Conditions:
• Full-time position (minimum 38 hours per week).
• Must be available to work weekends and early mornings as part of a rotating roster.
• Located onsite at Tatura Hot Bread, a busy regional bakery and café
