Could You Be our next Trainee Building Certifier?
Because every great building needs a great certifier
-----------------------------------
Why Join Us?
At ACT Certification, we're not your typical Building Certification company. We're a young, family-run business in Canberra, growing fast and shaking things up in the industry. Most of our team are former tradies who discovered a passion for helping people get building approvals right — and we're on the hunt for our next Trainee Building Certifier.
This isn't just another job. It's a chance to:
* Work alongside a brilliant team of like-minded professionals who are passionate about supporting and educating our clients through a very complex Building Approval process.
* Learn the ropes of building codes, inspections, and approvals (without being stuck on the tools on those freezing cold Canberra's winter mornings, or scorching summer afternoons)
* Join a supportive crew who values teamwork, laughs, and getting the job done right
* Grow your career as an A4/Building Inspector through to an A3 or A2/Building Surveyor Residential/General Building Surveyor.
We'll give you mentorship, practical training, paid study leave (negotiated at commencement of employment), and support through personal and professional development. You bring the curiosity and drive — we'll teach you the rest.

Who We're Looking For
We don't expect you to know it all, but we would value you bringing:
* A construction background — whether you're a carpenter, builder, plumber, engineer, architect, or just love being around construction projects.
* The right attitude — problem-solving, curiosity, accountability, and teamwork.
* Willingness to learn — building codes, site inspections, plan assessments, communication with tradies, architects, and homeowners.
* Communication skills — clear, confident, and collaborative.
* Computer savvy — Microsoft Office, task management tools, and an eagerness to learn new systems.
Bonus points if you already have your White Card, Asbestos Awareness, or Silica training — but if not, we'll support you to get them.
-----------------------------------
What You'll Do (and Learn)
* Dive into building codes, zoning laws, and Australian Standards
* Assist with reviewing plans and drawings
* Attend site inspections — and by the end of your first year as a trainee be able to conduct some site inspections independently
* Develop your "construction detective" skills to spot non-compliance
* Learn to keep clear, accurate records of projects and approvals
* Build strong communication with everyone from Government to architects to homeowners
* Stay ahead of the game with ongoing training and professional development
By the end of the 3-year traineeship, you'll have achieved accreditation and be a fully qualified Building Certifier.
-----------------------------------
Your Path to Becoming Accredited
This 3-year traineeship includes academic study through a course recognised by the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors or NSW Fair Trading, leading to formal accreditation.
These aspects will be discussed further with the successful applicant:
* Paid study leave (negotiated when you start)
* Monetary incentives when you hit key study milestones
* All the practical training you'll need alongside your academic learning
The academic component is self-funded, but we'll make sure you have everything you need to succeed.
-----------------------------------
The Offer
* Permanent full-time role (38 hours, based in our brand-new Belconnen office, 6-month probation period)
* $80,000 salary + superannuation
* Access to a company vehicle or mileage reimbursement for attending site inspections
* All IT and PPE provided
* Paid study leave and incentives for completing your studies (negotiated at the commencement of employment)
* A fun, family-oriented team that values integrity, professionalism, and a positive attitude
-----------------------------------
A Little Fine Print
* You'll need full working rights in Australia (sorry, no sponsorship)
* A valid driver's licence
* Willingness to complete pre-employment checks (the successful applicant will be required to pass a police check prior to commencing employment)
