Job Title: Morning Edition Newsletter Editor
About the Role:
The Morning Edition Newsletter Editor plays a pivotal role in shaping the narrative of our daily news content. This individual is responsible for curating the Morning Edition Newsletter, selecting stories that represent news value, reader interest, and the mastheads' values.
Key Responsibilities:
* Curate the Morning Edition Newsletter for both The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age to select the stories of the day that represent news value, reader interest and the mastheads' values.
* Write the newsletter introductions and sharp summaries of the day's top stories ensuring they are insightful, engaging and package up related content.
* Keep across print editions, online homepages, internal runsheets and evening newsletters to inform editing decisions.
* Keep in touch with breaking news and our competitors' coverage to judge the news agenda of the day.
* Track and analyse audience data for the Morning Edition.
* Give the Morning Edition a voice.
* Ensure the newsletters display the breadth of our coverage and showcase our brand authority.
Qualifications:
* Extensive journalistic experience in a daily newsroom.
* Clear, concise writing style.
* Impeccable news judgement.
* Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy.
* Thorough understanding of, and confidence to make decisions relating to, defamation law, contempt of court and other legal considerations.
* Excellent proof-reading skills.
* Strong interest in, and understanding of local, national and international current affairs.
* Proficiency in digital news production.
* Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
* Experience in newsletter production and strategy is desirable.
