This position involves hands‐on work preparing building surfaces, installing boards, and applying protective and decorative solid plaster finishes to both internal and external walls. The role suits someone who enjoys practical, physical work, takes pride in detailed finishes, and works well as part of a close‐knit team on active construction sites.
Core Responsibilities
* Surface Preparation: Complete pre start checklist, read plans, ensure job is ready for installation of boards
* Board Installation: Accurately read and interpret construction drawings and site plans to locate board positions, control joints, and break joints. Establish whether boards are for firewalls and follow procedures and manuals. Measure, mark, and cut boards to size using saws and other cutting tools.
* Board Handling & Loading: Safely carry, position, and load boards as part of a team, maintaining correct lifting techniques and attention to site safety.
* Fixing & Finishing: Install steel tophats ready for boards or panels to be secured on walls ensuring alignment and structural integrity. Seal and patch joints and edges and prepare for render application where applicable.
* Rendering & Application: Mix and apply renders or coatings evenly using trowels, floats, and other standard tools. Achieve specified textures or decorative finishes while maintaining consistent thickness and smoothness.
* Plans & Specifications: Read and interpret architectural drawings, elevations, and project specifications to confirm correct materials and installation methods.
* Tools & Equipment: Operate, clean, and maintain hand and power tools safely and efficiently. Report damaged or worn equipment promptly.
Workplace & Safety
* Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and use PPE as required.
* Ensure job sites are organised, clean, and free from hazards.
* Manage time effectively to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
* Identify and correct surface defects or inconsistencies during installation.
Communication & Teamwork
* Follow site supervisor directions and collaborate closely with other trades.
* Contribute to a positive and cooperative team environment.
* Communicate effectively, raising any issues or material requirements in a timely manner.
Qualifications & Experience
* Previous experience in rendering, plastering, or construction is highly valued.
* CPC31020 Certificate III in Solid Plastering or CPC31220 Certificate III in Wall and Ceiling Lining preferred but not essential.
* Candidates with transferable skills or background in related trades are encouraged to apply—comprehensive training will be provided.
Required Skills
* High level of physical fitness, strength and stamina to lift board, buckets and work in physically demanding role for long periods.
* Good balance, coordination and comfort working at heights on ladders and light scaffolds.
* Ability to work in varied site conditions
* Attention to detail and precision to achieve flat, plumb, level and visually consistent surfaces.
* Basic numeracy and literacy to read plans, measurements and safety instructions.
* Problem‐solving skills to deal with uneven substrates, on‐site changes and defects.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a construction team, with clear communication on site.
