The Opportunity
Lithgow City Council
has an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Heavy Vehicle & Plant Mechanicto join their team in Lithgow NSW.
Reporting to the Leading Hand Mechanic, you will be participating in a team that undertakes scheduled maintenance and repair works associated with the Council's light and heavy fleet and plant infrastructure. You will carry out maintenance and repairs of Council's small mobile and fixed plant and equipment, fault finding and diagnostics to assist in the prevention of breakdowns or unexpected down time of machinery.
More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):
* To provide input into and undertake planned and reactive maintenance to approved plant and fleet specification
* Respond in a timely manner and investigate causes of breakdowns, resolve problems
* To conduct plant and fleet inspections, fault finding and installations
* Proactively participate in operational meetings and training programs
* To ensure all workshop equipment is maintained in good working order, is tested/certified at required intervals
* Repair and maintenance of a wide range of vehicles in a wide array of locations
* Conduct both planned and reactive maintenance within Councils WHS procedures, adopted SWMS, risk assessments

About You
The successful candidates will meet the following criteria:
* Trade certificate and licence in Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology.
* RMS safety check qualifications (ASCIS examiner)
* Demonstrated sound Mechanical knowledge and demonstrated experience (minimum of 2 years) in maintenance, repair and problem solving.
* Sound working knowledge of activities associated with mechanical workshops (e.g. general lathe, machining skills, oxy cutting, welding etc.).
* Well-developed analytical skills and demonstrated innovative and flexible approach to fault finding and problem solving operational and maintenance requirements.
* Ability to communicate with all Council staff, specialist contractors and suppliers in relation to any servicing/maintenance repairs to be undertaken on Council's plant and fleet.
* Available to be participate in an "On Call" roster for out of hours mechanical breakdowns, as required.
* NSW Class Medium Rigid (MR) Drivers Licence.
* Demonstrated understanding of Work Health & Safety
* Commitment to the principals of honesty and integrity
In Addition, An Ideal Candidate Would Have
* NSW Class Heavy Rigid (HR) Drivers Licence
* RMS safety check qualifications (HVAIS examiner)
* Previous Local Government experience working in a mechanical workshop.
* Basic knowledge and skills in the use of computer applications including email, Microsoft Office suite and other work-related systems
