About Us
Tiwi Islands Regional Council is the heart of community support and infrastructure on Bathurst and Melville Islands. As a lead organisation in maintaining essential community services, we are dedicated to ensuring the smooth operation of our island's infrastructure to serve our vibrant community.
The islands are home to the Tiwi people, who have a strong affiliation with their land and waterways, along with distinctive culture and language. There are school and medical facilities on the islands, with regular plane, passenger ferry and barge services operating to Darwin.
Role
You will contribute to creating and maintaining a positive Health Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) culture among all employees to ensure each employee and TIRC take responsibility for their roles in community and people-focused safety performance. Your direct responsibilities may include the following.
Establish strong relationships with managers, supervisors, and employees across the organization to reduce risk and injury and ensure a protected workplace
Provide advice to internal stakeholders on the policies, management guidelines, and procedures applicable to HSW
Assist team leaders with HSW audits, inspections, and investigations, as well as implementing corrective actions
Assist in organising HSW training sessions
Prepare regular HSW reports
You
Minimum standard year 12 or equivalent
Good written communication skills
The ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
Current and valid NT 'C' class driver's licence (or equivalent)
Perks
We will provide an 18 month traineeship covering experience and training in a wide range of skill areas. Your experience and training will help you finish the traineeship with a Certificate IV in Health and Safety.
There's also the money - the salary ranges between $53,668 and $62,105 per year.
