The Courts Administration Authority (CAA) is seeking a highly credible executive to serve as
Principal Registrar and Director Higher Courts.
The Principal Registrar is the principal administrative officer for the Supreme Court, District Court, and Environment, Resources and Development (ERD) Court in South Australia.
This is a pivotal role in the delivery of justice in South Australia and operates at the intersection of judicial independence and operational leadership. You will be at the centre of our vision to strengthen public trust in the justice system through the delivery of exceptional support to the Higher Courts.
About The Role
Working in close partnership with the Chief Justice, Chief Judge, and Senior Judge ERD Court, you will lead the non-judicial administration of the Higher Courts, supporting approximately 40 independent judicial officers across multiple jurisdictions.
Key accountabilities include:
* Leadership of court administration, judicial support, Higher Court registry, and listings teams
* Management and development of senior registrars, and chambers and in-court support staff for judiciary.
* Service delivery performance, governance and risk
* Continuous improvement and modernisation of court operations
* Ongoing training and professional development for judicial support staff
This is a visible executive role in a high-trust environment.
About You
You are a senior leader that models and promotes exemplary behaviours with:
* Experience in courts, justice, legal services or complex public sector systems
* Strong judgment and credibility operating as, or alongside, high-level or independent decision-makers
* Proven people leadership and change experience
* The ability to lead calmly under pressure in complex and sensitive environments
* Legal qualifications are advantageous but not essential.
