Northrop Grumman Australia partners with the Royal Australian Air Force to provide through‐life support for its fleet of C-27J Spartan Airlifter aircraft. The C-27J complements the Australian Defence Force's existing Air Mobility fleet and provides airlift of people, equipment and supplies to support Humanitarian Disaster Relief and crisis response in Australia and nearby regions.
Key Responsibilities
Due to our continued growth, we are seeking a Non‐Destructive Inspection Technician (NDT) to join the C-27J Base Maintenance team at RAAF Base Amberley.
As an NDT Technician, you will be responsible for performing various inspection techniques including Ultrasonic Testing, Magnetic Particle, Liquid/Fluid Penetrant, Eddy Current, Radiography, Hardness, and Conductivity. It is crucial to comply with maintenance manuals, publications, and adhere to all Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) Aeronautical regulatory procedures. You will be expected to generate engineering reports detailing identified defects within the Aircraft structure, including data transfer, image preparation, creation, and formatting. Communication is key, and you will need to regularly update progress on each job, promptly communicate delays or issues, and provide data relating to quality control and weekly KPI figures. Collaborating with management to investigate maintenance or servicing concerns and suggesting appropriate solutions will be part of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will work closely with the AME Structures Supervisor and be involved in Line and Heavy Non‐Destructive Inspection on C-27J Spartan aircraft.
About You
You're an experienced NDT Technician with a strong background in aircraft structural inspection within a regulated aviation environment. You're methodical, safety‐focused, and take pride in delivering accurate inspections that support aircraft availability and airworthiness.
* Hands‐on experience across multiple NDT methods, including UT, MPI, LPI, Eddy Current, Radiography, Hardness and Conductivity
* The ability to work strictly to approved maintenance manuals, technical data and DASA regulations
* Strong reporting skills, including defect identification, image preparation and engineering report generation
* Clear communication skills, with the confidence to raise issues, report progress and flag delays early
* Experience working collaboratively with AMEs, supervisors and engineering teams
* Comfort operating in both Line and Heavy Maintenance environments
