The Role
We are seeking an experienced and technically capable Senior Scientist to deliver water and wastewater technical solutions and continuous improvements within their area of specialisation. This role is in the Operational Improvement team, within our Operations Business Group, and provides expert scientific support across operational and strategic initiatives, while also mentoring and supporting junior team members to help achieve departmental and organisational objectives.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, analytical problem-solving skills, and a collaborative approach to improving operational performance, compliance, and service outcomes.
In this role, you will:
* Provide detailed analysis to optimise TasWater’s operation of treatment systems (including networks) with regard to reliability, risk, quality and cost
* Identify operational and capital projects to support optimisation
* Systematically quantify and track implemented financial and non-financial operational improvement benefits
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support operations, project delivery, risk management, and regulatory
* outcomes.
Support and lead continuous improvement and innovative initiatives to enhance operational performance, compliance, and efficiency.

What we're looking for
We are looking for an innovative and aspirational Senior Scientist with a strong technical background in water and/or wastewater science. The successful candidate will bring a proactive and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to apply scientific expertise to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence. You will be a collaborative and motivated individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality outcomes, supporting others, and contributing to a culture of innovation, learning, and continuous growth.
This role requires:
* Degree in Science (relevant to this team/discipline) or equivalent competency
* Experience in a similar scientific or operational role, preferably within water, wastewater, or environmental industries.
* Strong experience working with chemicals, including safe handling, usage, storage, and risk management practices.
* Specific chemical knowledge and practical experience relating to water and/or wastewater treatment processes and operations.
* Advanced scientific and chemistry subject matter expertise, with strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
* Proven experience leading scientific trials, investigations, and improvement initiatives with an innovative and continuous improvement focus.

The Details
This role can be based in either Hobart, Launceston, or Devonport and attracts a salary of $131,265 - $145,850 (inclusive of superannuation), negotiable dependent on experience.
