About the Role
This is a rare opportunity to join a successful, family-owned independent supermarket group headquartered on the Gold Coast, supporting a diverse network across Queensland. The Category Manager will play a critical role in driving commercial performance across key grocery categories, with genuine end-to-end ownership. This is a hands‐on, practical role suited to someone who thrives in a fast‐moving retail environment, enjoys being close to stores and suppliers, and can confidently balance trading, margin and ranging decisions. The business values accountability, pace and commercial judgement, and is looking for someone who can embed quickly, build trust internally and externally, and add value from day one.
What You'll Be Doing
* Owning end-to-end supermarket grocery categories from strategy through to execution
* Managing supplier negotiations including cost pricing, rebates, trading terms and promotional funding
* Building and executing promotional programs that drive sales, margin and store relevance
* Working closely with stores to support ranging decisions, compliance and in‐store execution
* Analysing category performance, identifying opportunities and responding to trading challenges
* Partnering with senior leadership to align category plans with broader business objectives
* Being physically present in the office and in store to understand the operation and customer firsthand
What You'll Bring
* Proven experience as a Category Manager or Buyer within supermarket grocery
* Strong understanding of independent grocery retail environments preferred
* Hands‐on experience managing grocery categories rather than purely procurement or supply chain
* Confident supplier negotiator with strong commercial acumen
* Comfortable operating at pace with competing priorities
* Practical, down‐to‐earth approach and the ability to build strong working relationships
* Brisbane or Gold Coast based or able to commute regularly
* Full working rights in Australia
