About the Role
The Waste and Resource Management Branch leads sustainable waste services and strategic resource management across the region. Through innovation and practical solutions, the team helps advance Council's goal of being Australia's most sustainable region.
As a Senior Environmental Officer, you will:
* Deliver the Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre Program and associated environmental compliance tasks.
* Manage contracts and oversee contractor performance across operational and closed waste facilities.
* Provide expert environmental advice, training and guidance on legislation, compliance and best practice.
* Lead compliance activities, including investigations, corrective actions and incident management.
* Develop and maintain environmental management systems, monitoring programs and operational plans.
* Manage environmental approvals and regulatory requirements for new and existing facilities and projects.
* Conduct audits, monitoring and field assessments, and prepare performance reports for internal and external stakeholders.
* Undertake research to evaluate waste diversion, recycling options and emerging environmental issues.
* Build strong relationships with State Government representatives to support compliance and information sharing.
* Contribute to project planning, remediation programs, WHS responsibilities and the delivery of Council's waste management objectives.
About you
The successful candidate will have
* Tertiary Qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or equivalent
* Demonstrated project and contract management experience
* Minimum five years experience in relevant Government or private sectors
* Comprehensive knowledge of environmental legislation and policy likely to impact on waste management
* Excellent communication, conflict resolution, interpersonal, negotiation and networking skills.
* Holder of a current White Card (Work Safely in the Construction Industry) with adequate operational WH&S experience
* Well developed computer skills including the ability to utilise software relevant to this position's requirements; including the Microsoft Office suite, GIS applications and Council databases.
* Current "C" Class Driver's License
Desirable requirements
You will be required to have:
* Diploma of Project Management
* Knowledge of procurement policy and demonstrated contract development and management experience in local government.
* Knowledge of Workplace Health & Safety, EEO and Council policy applicable to this position.
