Northern Health is seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Transfusion Quality Officer to join the Pathology team.
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.
Services are provided through our five main campuses: Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital.
About the Role: We are seeking an experienced and suitably qualified Transfusion Quality Officer to join Northern Pathology Victoria located at Northern Health in Epping, in a Permanent 0.5 FTE Part-Time capacity.
This is an exciting chance for a professional with strong expertise in Blood Transfusion practices, quality systems and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working collaboratively with all staff to ensure safe, appropriate and sustainable use of blood and blood products and patient centred blood management
- The stewardship of blood and blood products, to minimise wastage and patient blood management to reduce the need for transfusion where possible
- Monitoring and improving transfusion-related processes, documentation and reporting
- Supporting audits, incident investigations and continuous improvement and initiatives
- Providing education and training on transfusion quality and safety
- Participating in development and review of policies, procedures and protocols
Requirements:
- Bachelor degree of Applied Science (Laboratory Medicine) or equivalent from a tertiary institution recognised by the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS)
- A minimum 3 years of experience in a hospital/laboratory quality officer role, or equivalent quality responsibilities as pathology laboratory scientist
- Post-graduate qualification in Transfusion Practice or working towards/willingness to undertake transfusional practice microcredentials course offered by Lifeblood
- Strong commitment to a high quality of care and continuous professional development
- Ability to work as part of a diverse team and independently with a proven ability to plan and prioritise work effectively to meet deadlines
- High level of interpersonal, leadership, organisational and communication skills with a well-developed capacity to adapt to continues change and liaise effectively with staff
